How do you recover in a simple and easy manner from acid reflux condition?
There are millions of people from all over the world who are suffering from acid
reflux. The rising of stomach acids up the esophagus is the cause of this. There
is a ring like valve called lower esophageal sphincter (LES) existing at the
bottom of the esophagus. The job of LES is to let food go through and stop the
acids from going back up. If you have relaxed or damaged LES then it may not be
able to control the acids from going up the esophagus. The stomach acids are
pretty much the same strength as that of acid in your car battery and so you can
guess how it feels when it goes up!!
You must learn the causes of acid reflux in order to control it. Damages of LES
and esophagus are the prime reasons for this condition. Sharp edged food items
like crackers and corn chips may scratch these organs. Even bread with a hard
crust can cause scratches, provided you did not chew it properly. If you consume
too much spicy or acidic food that could worsen these scratches and cause you
acid reflux condition. If you start to have this problem, then it is bound to
come back again and again.
You can let your esophagus heal by avoiding the consumption of the same food,
which brought you to this situation in the first place. Some of the things which
could reduce this condition are proper exercising, controlling your weight,
drinking lots of water, chewing very well while eating and eating in a
comfortable surrounding.
If you check out in your grocery stores or health food stores, you will find
many natural food items, which can help you in controlling acid reflux
condition. Marshmallow and slippery elm are two herbal products, which can speed
up your recovery process. Licorice, aloe vera juice and natural honey can help
in speeding up the recovery process.
The chances of acid reflux condition can be reduced a lot by taking food three
hours before you hit the bed. If you develop the habit of chewing gum in between
your meals, that would help in reducing your acid reflux condition. As you chew,
more saliva is produced, which is alkaline in nature and can neutralize the
stomach acids.
A smaller portion of meal at higher frequency is the right way to eat. There is
no point in sticking to three big meals namely break fast, lunch and dinner, as
is the common practice. It would be a lot better for your acid reflux condition,
if you can daily eat 4 or 5 smaller meals. Avoid coffee, which is acidic in
nature, and choose Kukicha Twig tea, as it is alkaline in nature. People have
been using this tea for centuries to make your body more alkaline. It would be
better to have some fruits like banana or melons for break fast in place of your
regular cereal. Choose snacks containing nuts like almonds, walnuts etc to be
consumed during the day. A grilled chicken breast salad or a tofu, which
contains hearts of romaine, olive oil and lemon juice would be right for lunch.
As lemon juice is more alkaline it would be better over vinegar any time.
While you are recovering from a bout of acid reflux, it would be prudent to
avoid eating any thing, which could worsen the condition. Any acidic food items
like tomato products, hot peppers, spicy foods, uncooked garlic, uncooked onions
etc should be avoided until the burns and scratches can heal itself. If you try
any of these products, that is going to mess up the stomach condition even
further. Consumption of alcohol or chocolate, smoking etc would cause the LES to
relax and hence a worsening of the acid reflux condition can happen, as the
stomach acids rush up the esophagus and a further delay the recovery process
takes place.
Until you recover completely from the acid reflux condition you should adhere to
a strict diet comprising of mild and easily digestible food. Always chew your
food very thoroughly and properly and take your food early. There should not be
any unpleasant things around while you eat.
In the fight against acid reflux, you can do certain things in order to achieve
better results. Keeping an optimum weight, doing regular exercises, using
comfortable clothes, eating the right food and chewing it properly, staying away
from carbonated drinks etc can make a huge difference in your acid reflux
condition. Another well-known method, which can relieve your condition, is meditation.
Meditation has a huge effect in reducing your stress levels, which in turn can
reduce your acid reflux condition. You can do meditation anywhere. You can start
your meditation by simply sitting straight on the floor and leave your hands on
your sides. Take a deep breath in and let it out very slowly. Keep your eyes
closed and try to keep your attention in the middle of your forehead. Continue
breathing in and out. After continuing this for a little while, you will reach a
very solemn state of mind without any worries in your mind. Now think about
eating some delicious food slowly and easily. Visualize the food passing through
your mouth, throat, esophagus, LES and stomach in pristine condition. You will
understand that all of your body is working in unison. You will find yourself in
a happy and healthy mood.
If you practice this meditation technique once in a day, that is going to help
you in having a much lower rate of acid reflux condition. If you make these
necessary changes in your eating habits and life style, and start using some
herbal supplements, then you will be on the road to recovery from acid reflux
condition.
