Patients have been warned by US Food and Drug Administration from taking Lanoprazole generic acid reflux drug administered by oral syringe or feeding tubes, manufactured by Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd.
Though the product has been safe to be taken through the mouth with no complaints from the patients who got it administered so, however there has been reports of clogging reported by patients administered through syringes. The manufacturer has voluntarily withdrawn the medicine from the market however FDA has cautioned through their website that it might be still held in stock in many pharmacies or facilities or in the possession of patients.
The tablet is made in such a way that it dissolves completely when you add water to it. But reports states that Teva tablets may not completely dissolve and can also form lumps that carries the possibility of getting stuck to the walls of syringes or feeding tubes. There have been cases where patients required immediate and emergency medical attention and their feeding tubes required immediate unclogging.
FDA has confirmed that they would be reviewing this issue and will await corrective action for the problem from Teva.
